About Paula

Paula practices counselling and clinical hypnotherapy in her private practice in Putney, South-west London. She is highly qualified within Counselling, a Post Graduate Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis from King’s College London and a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Social, Child and Cognitive). She also trained as a Clinical Hypnotherapist at the London College of Clinical Hypnosis, which is accredited by Westminster University. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Management Science, specialising in Occupational and Organisational Psychology from Manchester University. Paula is currently finishing a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at City University with her research linked to the NHS and King’s College London, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN).

Paula is trained in Counselling, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness. She also has been trained in psychological interventions for children and adolescents with psychosis. She adopts an integrated approach which will be personalised for each client.

Paula is currently working for Lambeth NHS delivering Psychological Therapy for people with psychosis and bi-polar and their families. She conducts individual and group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Counselling therapy and Family Intervention with the Lambeth psychosis population and their families. She is the Carers and Families Support Lead for the team with a client base of 1200. She has previous experience in psychological rehabilitation for people with an acquired brain injury at The Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disabilities.  And has also worked in Low intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for people with moderate anxiety and/or depression at Merton’s Increasing Access to Psychological Therapy Service (IAPT, Merton foundation NHS Trust).  She volunteered for the Samaritans as a listener for 3 years and has worked for the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s Mental Health Befriending Service. She has been working as a clinical hypnotherapist for 5 years.

Her current research involves supporting families of people with psychosis and bi-polar at King’s College London, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), City University and the NHS and developing a protocol model for caregivers in psychological intervention within a NHS setting. She is part of the nationwide special interest group for bi-polar in the NHS, Paula is developing improved psychological intervention models with the group. She was also part of a research team which aims to introduce psychological therapy in hostels for the homeless where people have a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder, usually with a dual diagnosis (addictions to drugs or alcohol).
